NMMA Data Dashboard: Latest Performance Indicator Updates Available

The latest version of the NMMA Data Dashboard is now available, including performance indicators on wholesale and retail sales of powerboats and outboard engines; economic metrics; and interactive graphs illustrating recent and historical trends.

  • The final December Consumer Sentiment Index is 99.3, up from 96.8 in November, remaining at an overall high level and reflecting gains in both current economic conditions and short-term expectations. December marks the fourth consecutive month the index has risen.
  • The November Small Business Optimism Index was 104.7, reflecting lower reported levels of uncertainty and positive trends in terms of earnings, hiring and capital expenditures.
  • New construction of privately-owned homes was up 8.4 percent on an R3M YOY basis through November, marking the fifth consecutive month of positive growth. The quarterly rolling rates of change in new housing starts and new traditional powerboat sales are correlated, and combined with strong consumer spending, the latest new housing data bodes well for new powerboat sales in November.
  • Compared to October when the PMIs for three of the top five markets for U.S. boat exports (Mexico, Australia and the Netherlands) were generally in expansion, the November PMIs indicated contraction in their manufacturing sectors. The November PMI for Canada, the largest market for U.S. boat exports, was in expansion and increased from 51.2 in October to 51.4.
