2021 U.S. Boating Statistical Abstract: Cruiser, Watersport, Fishing Boat and Trailer Sales Report Just Released

The Cruiser, Watersport, Fishing Boat and Trailer Sales Trends section of NMMA’s 2021 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract is now available. This report examines retail sales trends of trailers, as well as new boats commonly used for the three top boating activities: cruising, watersports and fishing. Overall, sales declined compared to 2020 with watersport boats seeing the smallest decline of 0.3%; outboard cruiser sales increased 6% compared to 2020.

Further insights include:

  • New cruiser sales declined 5.8%, primarily due to the decline in sales of sterndrive cruisers.
  • Pontoon boat sales declined 1.9%, reflecting supply chain bottlenecks.
  • Sales of saltwater and freshwater fishing boats combined declined 8.6% but remained 10% above the 14-year unit sales average.
  • Boat trailer sales declined 3.2% after nine consecutive years of growth.
