NMMA Boat Show Advocacy Events Off to a Great Start

The NMMA advocacy team held their first briefing events at the Atlanta and Chicago boat shows last week, kicking off the initial leg of their “Propelling Our Industry Forward” series. Looking ahead, the advocacy tour heads to the Minneapolis, New York, New England, and Atlantic City shows, and NMMA is encouraging all stakeholders and exhibitors to attend. In Atlanta, NMMA political advocacy and engagement director, Erica Crocker and NMMA director of state government relations, Libby Yranski lead a discussion on advocacy accomplishments from last year, 2019 policy priorities, and the importance of grassroots participation in achieving these objectives.

Approximately 40 people from the boating industry attended the Atlanta event. Also in the audience were representatives from the offices of Senator David Perdue (R-GA), Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09), as well as officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. At the state level, Georgia Representatives Marc Morris and Rhonda Burnough attended, in addition to officials from the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Atlanta offices.

In Chicago, NMMA vice president of state government relations, David Dickerson and director of federal government affairs, Lance West met with advocates in the Great Lakes region to discuss the industry’s 2019 state and federal priorities. The event included a presentation on issues such as NMMA’s leadership on Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) prevention, trade policy, and the impact of E-15 sales on the industry. Advocates engaged in a question and answer session following the presentation and walked away with industry statistics on how recreational boating is positively impacting the economy of Illinois and the surrounding area.

The four remaining events will be held later this month and in February. Individual registration pages with additional details for each event are available at the following links:

Regardless of whether someone has been involved with NMMA for years or is new to the industry, NMMA encourages everyone to attend the events and bring their colleagues and friends.
